Highlights Of The Hyundai Eon

Hyundai introduces a big headache for the Alto, India’s biggest selling car with its Eon. While the Alto has been around for over a decade, is it time to hit the Eon’s ignition?

The Eon Style

Hyundai created the Eon to be funky, appealing and possess its newer, fluid design. It looks a good deal like the i10 and the Verna from the outside. It does demand a second glance with its wraparound headlights and cool, arched wheels.

How It Looks – Dashboard and Interior

You get a large speedometer right in the centre of the dashboard. It is accompanied on either side by the temperature gauge and the fuel gauge. These “pods” are easy to read and sleek to look at. You get an iPod-compatible USB port, too. If that will not work for your cell phone or device, do not worry. Hyundai also includes an auxiliary port beneath it.

The doors look tight, and they shut with a thud that lets you know they are securely closed. The seats are thin, but they are remarkably supportive which is good for long drives. Hyundai seems to understand how to engineer allay to high-quality completely and passes the lower production costs on to the consumer.

How It Runs – The Engine and Transmission

India’s Eon sports a 3-cylinder engine developed at Hyundai’s Hyderabad research and development centre. This is the same engine as the i10 had minus a cylinder to reduce displacement. It has 56PS of power and 76Nm of torque, so it happens to be the best engine in a car of this class.

Still, the car is not completely driveable because the maximum torque generates at 4000 rpms, and you have to shift to low gear on a constant basis. Revs stay high even when driving in urban areas. You will find you have to shift between second and third all the time.

Safety Features

Hyundai has its single air bag policy on the Eon. Its justification is that this is a car made for single drivers without passengers. That does not sound like a fair justification, just a disappointment in terms of providing thought to the car’s safety all around. The car does not come with just a driver’s seat, after all.
